Definition of terms as per DIN VDE 0660-600-1 (see DIN VDE 0100-200)

Rated voltage

Un

The manufacturer‘s specified maximum nominal AC voltage (effective value) or DC voltage for which the main circuits of the switchgear assembly are designed.
Rated operating voltage

Ue

The manufacturer‘s specified voltage value which, combined with the rated current, determines the usage.
Rated insulation voltage

Ui

Withstand voltage (effective value), which is specified by the manufacturer for a device or a part thereof and which specifies the defined (long-term) endurance of its associated insulation.
Rated surge voltage

Uimp

The value of an impulse voltage specified by the manufacturer, which specifies the defined endurance of the insulation with respect to transient overvoltages.
Short-circuit current

Ic

Overcurrent that occurs in the case of a short circuit due to an error or an incorrect connection in an electrical circuit.
Prospective short-circuit current

Icp

Current that flows in a circuit due to a short circuit caused by a conductor of negligible impedance in the immediate vicinity of the terminals of the switchgear assembly.
Rated surge current resistance

Ipk

The largest instantaneous value of the short-circuit current specified by the manufacturer, which will be sustained under the specified conditions.
Rated short-term current resistance

Icw

The effective value of the short-time current specified by the manufacturer, indicated as current and time, which can be fulfilled under specified conditions without damage.
Rated conditional short-circuit current

Icc

The value of the prospective short-circuit current specified by the manufacturer, which can be withstood by a circuit protected by a short-circuit protection device (SCPD1) during the total break time (duration of current flow) of the device under specified conditions.
Rated current

In

The manufacturer‘s stated current value, which takes into account the ratings of the equipment and their location and use and which can be fulfilled without exceeding the specified temperature limits of the various parts of the switchgear assembly under specified conditions.
Rated load factor

RDF*2

The manufacturer‘s specified percentage of the rated current, with which the outflow of a switchgear assembly can be loaded continuously and simultaneously taking into account the mutual thermal influences.
*1 SCPD = Short Circuit Protection Device
*2 RDF = Rated Diversity Factor
