Regional cooperation in Lüdenscheid: Spelsberg supplies custom GTi-Verteiler for the new Talbrücke Rahmede

The construction of the new Talbrücke Rahmede in Lüdenscheid is one of the most important infrastructure projects in North Rhine-Westphalia. After the demolition of the dilapidated A45 bridge in May 2023, intensive work is currently underway on the replacement structure. The first structure is scheduled to be opened to traffic on 22.12.2025. Spelsberg, the specialist in electrical installation and enclosure technology from Schalksmühle, is contributing to the realization of this central project with high-quality distribution systems.

Spelsberg components are used inside the bridge: beneath the carriageway there is a walkable tunnel that houses numerous electrical installations. The GTi distributors supplied by Spelsberg perform central tasks in power distribution, including maintenance in the bridge bodies. In total, twelve distribution units will be installed, configured as main distribution, sub-distributions and subdistributions for the abutments. In addition to the seven distribution units already installed, five further units and five transition boxes are planned. The components used are individual, customer-specific solutions based on Spelsberg’s modular GTi switchgear system. These systems are designed for demanding environments and enable a flexible combination of different switching devices. They serve as central switching and distribution points, in which, among other things, fuse elements and circuit protection components have been installed. While Spelsberg supplied the robust enclosure technology, the electrical installer Meschede & Co. GmbH from Werdohl carried out the assembly and equipped the switch cabinets with the electrotechnical components. "As a company with over 100 years of experience in electrical installation, we are proud that our around 45-strong team was able to contribute to the swift and successful implementation of this significant infrastructure project," adds Jonas Middendorf, Managing Director at Meschede & Co.

Successful implementation

The delivery was carried out in close coordination with the electrical installer and the wholesale partner EFG Westfalen KG from Bergkamen. The required distribution units were made available within a short period of time. The on-time provision was crucial because construction progress depended on the timely assembly of the electrotechnical installations. The installation of the Spelsberg systems has been carried out since November 2025.

Regional strength and collaborative partnership

Particularly noteworthy is the close regional cooperation. All partners involved – Spelsberg, Meschede & Co. and EFG Westfalen – are from North Rhine‑Westphalia and benefit from short distances and long-standing experience. This spatial and personal proximity enabled quick coordination, short response times and ultimately an efficient implementation of the project. For Alexander Schmidt, Regional Sales Manager Westphalia (South) + Siegerland at Spelsberg, who coordinated the collaboration among the partners, the project is exemplary of the strength of the regional economy: "Companies from the region that themselves suffered greatly from the closure of the bridge are now becoming part of its reconstruction. That is a strong sign both economically and emotionally."

Since the closure of the Talbrücke in December 2021, many local businesses have struggled with the consequences. Longer travel times, staff attrition and economic losses followed. All the more significant is that the new construction is now being realized with the involvement of regional companies.

Quality, reliability and future prospects

Spelsberg once again impresses with quality, flexibility, delivery capability and its regional network. The company has been known for decades for robust and practical enclosure and distribution systems that are used in a wide range of infrastructure applications. Even in this major project, the high reliability of the products and the partners involved was evident. "The cooperation with Meschede & Co. and EFG Westfalen was consistently excellent. Everything ran smoothly and according to plan," emphasizes the Spelsberg regional sales manager. "Thanks to the quick delivery, the installer was able to gain valuable time to assemble the system. In this way, Spelsberg is doing its part to ensure that the new Talbrücke Rahmede is completed on time."

Soon, alongside commuters and travelers, numerous Spelsberg employees from the region will once again drive over the new A45 bridge. With the awareness that high-quality, custom-made Spelsberg components ensure safety and reliability inside the bridge.
