Successful participation in the SIHK project "Energy Scouts" - Spelsberg trainees qualify for national finals

Three apprentices from Spelsberg demonstrated as part of the “Energy Scouts” project by the SIHK Hagen how sustainable commitment and practice-oriented learning can be successfully combined. Lisa Burzynski-Müller, David Rittinghaus and Julian Westmeier took part in the program. For the project they developed, which offers both ecological and economic benefits for the company, the apprentices received the special prize for biodiversity.

The "Energy Scouts" project provides trainees with in-depth knowledge on energy and resource efficiency in four different workshops. Participants benefit from hands-on input from experts. They then independently implement a project within their company with the aim of achieving concrete improvements in the areas of energy efficiency, resource conservation or biodiversity.

Sustainable measures with measurable added value

Spelsberg's Energy Scouts tackled several areas at once: in the operational area they analyzed the compressed air systems using an SIHK measuring device and identified a total of 14 leaks. By repairing them, nearly €5,000 can be saved each year. Furthermore, the trainees developed a concept to promote biodiversity on the company premises. The plan is to renaturalize a previously unused fire pond so that it can serve as a near-natural habitat for native animal and plant species. This project contributes to the ecological enhancement of the site and at the same time sustainably improves the local environmental conditions.

Award and qualification for the finals

For their holistic and future-oriented project, Lisa Burzynski-Müller, David Rittinghaus and Julian Westmeier were awarded the special prize for biodiversity. At the same time, they qualified for the nationwide final in Berlin, where they will present their project again in June. With their successful participation in the "Energie-Scouts" project, Spelsberg underlines the importance of sustainability and the promotion of young talent within the company. The initiative shows how young talents can take on responsibility and actively contribute to the further development of sustainable corporate processes.
