Tough stuff - The popular TK line of plastic enclosures from Spelsberg has been expanded

Industrial enclosures in the TK series have long been one of Spelsberg’s bestsellers. They are made of plastic, but sometimes there are good reasons for using other materials. This is why the most popular sizes in the plastic enclosure line are now being manufactured from aluminium too.

Enclosures in the TK series from Spelsberg have been tried and tested over many years and are genuine all-rounders. They come in a wide range of sizes from 50x52mm to 360x254mm and in three cover heights. All sizes of the plastic enclosures are available in polycarbonate and polystyrene. Manufactured from glass-fibre-reinforced polycarbonate, they can easily tolerate even harsh industrial environments with IK 08. They are weather-resistant, shockproof and also ideally suited to protected external applications with IP 66.

The enclosures can easily be adapted to any application with the aid of an extensive portfolio of accessories, ranging from mounting plates via a wide variety of cable glands to external hinges. They can also be customised by Spelsberg to suit individual requirements, meaning that even made-to-measure solutions can be realised with the TK series.

However, plastic isn’t always the first-choice material. If special resistance to chemicals is required, for instance, as is the case in many industries, then the TK series has previously not always been up to the job. The plastic enclosures also reach their natural limits at some stage with regard to impact resistance. And when the shielding of stray electromagnetic radiation is called for, metal enclosures are likewise preferred, as their use often renders other shielding measures superfluous.

This is why Spelsberg has added aluminium variants to its popular TK range. Friedel Wasserfuhr, Head of Sales Industry explains the reason for integrating these solutions into the TK series instead of creating a separate line for them: “Our TK programme includes an extensive range of accessories with which each enclosure can be equipped as required. We wanted to make this option available for the aluminium variants too without having to increase the warehouse stocks of our customers and trading partners unnecessarily.”

The internal dimensions of the new variants are similar to the plastic models, enabling the many different mounting plates available to be used, for instance. “Only the external dimensions vary, because the wall thicknesses for aluminium are greater than for plastic,” explains Wasserfuhr.

The first variants in protection class IP 66, which are especially robust with IK 09, will be available for delivery after the Light & Building show in Frankfurt and the Hanover Fair. Further types will be released before the end of the year.
