Firmware Update Wallbox Smart Pro - 5.34.3

Attention: Only use the update file available from the official Spelsberg website. Do not use any other files.

The new firmware update includes the following features and improvements:

  • RED3.3 (Radio Equipment Directive) compliance improvement
    • Disables HDLM on systems not yet configured for HDLM until a known weakness is fixed.
    • This version improves compliance with the DIN EN 18031 referenced in the latest addition to the EU Radio Equipment Directive (RED).
  • EEBUS
    • Improves stability, reliability, and functionality.
    • This version achieves compliance with the EEBus LPC and MPC profiles, confirmed in tests conducted by the EEBus Initiative e.V.
  • Network authentication IEEE 802.1x
    • The charge controller optionally supports IEEE 802.1x authentication for Ethernet and Wi-Fi networks.
    • Authentication is possible with PEAP (username/password) and TLS (certificate-based authentication).
  • DLM
    • Turning off external meter support in the WebUI now automatically disables the second meter, preventing error messages.
  • WebUI 2.0
    • The Dashboard now uses kWh instead of Wh for the total energy.
  • The logfile quality has been improved.
  • Supported Hardware
    • Added support for ABB D11 and D13 meter.

Bug Fixes

  • Generally
    • Fixed a memory leak introduced in 5.34.0 related to high OCPP message counts (e.g. frequent MeterValue or SetChargingProfile requests), which could lead to reboots.
    • Fixed an issue, where the hardware current limit was incorrectly signaled to the EV instead of the actual limit after connecting the EV and before contactor closure.
  • Network
    • Fixed an issue where WLAN SSID names containing the characters “, &, ‘, <, > could not be processed correctly.
  • Autocharge
    • Fixed an issue where vehicles including the Volkswagen ID7 did not charge when Autocharge was active, but authorization was done via RFID.
  • RCMB
    • Fixed errors after updating to 5.34.0 on older controllers with RCMB version D0462, V1.03.
    • Fixed a problem with the fault current detection that caused the error RCMB triggered to wrongly remain active after the faulty EV was disconnected until a reset or power cycle.
  • DLM
    • Fixed an issue where the fallback current was not correctly applied when booting into network disconnected situation.
    • Fixed an issue with the DLM Slave prioritization that reset the list of prioritized chargers when using the refresh button.

Note: Solar DLM with phase switching and ISO 15118 cannot be used together due to limitations in the ISO 15118 standard.

The update will be automatically installed over the air (OTA) for all Wallboxes connected to the internet. If the Wallboxes are not connected to the internet or if the OTA update fails, a manual update is possible. Below you will find information on how to carry out a manual update.
Manual updates may only be performed by a qualified electrician!

Note: If the OTA update fails, the user will receive an error message in the app. This is not a critical error – the Wallbox will still function as usual. Only the new features from the update will not be installed and must be added manually.

The update can only be performed when no EV is charging.

1.   Update via the Web UI of the charging controller (Wallbox does not need to be opened)

  • First, download the update file and save it to your device.
  • Then connect to the web interface of the charging controller using a laptop or other device.
    • You can access the web interface via the IP address assigned to the Wallbox either automatically or manually by your network administrator. If assigned automatically, the IP address can be found via the network router. Alternatively, you can connect to the Wallbox’s local hotspot if it has been enabled in the advanced settings under “Network” in the app. The default hotspot password is els-wallbox, but it may have been changed during installation.
    • Enter the Wallbox IP address (or hotspot address – for every Wallbox: 172.20.0.1) into any browser. A login screen will appear.
    • Enter the username operator and the service password for your Wallbox.
Note: If you do not have the service password or have lost it, please contact our technical support via the contact form on the Wallbox service and support page:
      https://www.spelsberg.de/service/support/elektromobilitaet/wallbox/
You will need the feedback number (RN number) of the respective Wallbox, which can be found on the nameplate or QR code (e.g., 12345-789).
  • After successful login, navigate to the System section in the menu. There you will find the Firmware Update option.
  • Under Select File, upload the previously downloaded firmware file to the Wallbox.
  • A color change in the status LED indicates the update is in progress. The update was successful when the LED turns blue again and firmware version 5.34 is displayed. You can verify this in the app under System > Installation & Maintenance Data.

Note: If you are automatically logged out of the Web UI after successful login, this is due to parallel access from the Spelsberg Wallbox App on a connected smartphone. The Web UI can only be accessed by one instance at a time. Therefore, please close the Spelsberg Wallbox App on all smartphones where the Wallbox is connected.

2.   Update via USB (Wallbox must be opened)

Warning: The Wallbox remains under voltage during the update. Please follow all applicable safety regulations when opening the enclosure and performing the update to avoid injury or system damage.

  • To perform the update via USB stick, first prepare a compatible USB stick:
    • Download the update file and save it to your laptop or another device with a USB-A port.
    • Use an empty USB stick (max. 500 MB, formatted to FAT32). To format: open File Explorer, find the USB stick in the left panel, right-click it, and choose “Format.” Select FAT32 as the file system and click “Start.” Note: this will erase all existing files on the USB stick.
    • Create a new text file using e.g., Windows Notepad, containing only the service password of the Wallbox. Save the file on the USB stick with the name USB_PASSWORD.
Ensure the file has no extension. Remove the .txt extension if necessary.
    • Copy the firmware file to the USB stick and rename it to sw_update.deb.
  • Remove the design cover of the Wallbox using the four unlocking chips. Instructions for removing the design cover can be found in the online product manual or installation guide.
  • Open the enclosure.
  • Insert the prepared USB stick into a free USB-A port of the charging controller located in the lid of the Wallbox and wait for the update to complete. This may take several minutes.
  • A color change in the status LED indicates the update is in progress. The update is successful when the LED turns blue again and the new firmware version 5.34 is shown. You can verify this in the app under System > Installation & Maintenance Data.

Note: If you do not have the service password or have lost it, please contact our technical support via the contact form at https://www.spelsberg.com/service/support/elektromobilitaet/wallbox/. You will need the feedback number (RN number) of the Wallbox, found on the nameplate or QR code (e.g., 12345-789).
